*Castings from original forks in the Phoebe Hearst Collection, U.C. Berkeley. Forks, of Italian origin, are among the earliest known tined eating utensils. Note the delicate hoof end motifs which indicate their use as “Game Forks”. Original forks were formed of latten, a copper-zinc alloy and are copied here in lead-free pewter.
